How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.
(Psalm 119:9)

Many have sought and continue to seek to keep their way clean before man, before themselves, and before God. The easiest way to keep your way clean before man is to look clean, speak cleanly, and therefore appear clean. To be clean before oneself oftentimes just takes a bit of change in one’s way of thinking. As long as one thinks they are clean, one can believe they are clean. The hardest to prove one’s cleanliness is before The Father, for He is not swayed by man’s appearance, manner of speech, or self-established truths. He cannot be mocked and no way is hidden from Him (Hebrews 4:13).

It can be difficult to determine how a sinful human can ever come close to reaching and continually take a clean way before the eyes of the Lord. However, God makes this solution clear in Scripture: the way man can clean his way is by taking heed to His word.

In His Word we find guidance and illumination of the path we must take to see Him and be with Him (Psalm 119:105). For without holiness no one shall see the Lord for He is holy (1 Peter 1:15-16; Hebrews 4:13). Therefore, Let His Word guide and cleanse your way this day and each day.

Cleanse your way before the Lord:

• Read and meditate on the Bible daily, allowing it to shape your thoughts and actions.
• Commit yourself to live according to God’s standards, not the world’s appearances.
• Trust in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to cleanse and guide your path.

To Pray:

Lord, help me to walk in purity and according to Your Word. Cleanse my heart and mind through Your truth, and guide me each day as I seek to follow You. Let Your Word be the light that leads my steps. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
